Kwelegha Pre-Primary School

The Eastern Cape is the poorest area in South Africa. It is the area with the highest unemployment in South Africa, 32%. The local school in the rural area about 40Km from East London is the Kwelegha Pre-Primary School in the Tuba Village.

Many school children go to school without any food. There are government feeding schemes in place but most schools had to start with soup kitchens to feed the children at the schools, hence the vegetable garden. Most animals in the rural areas are free range and therefore a vegetable garden without fencing would be destroyed by these animals.

PHT-SA spoke to the principal of the school Miss Sililo. She is thankful for what we have done, and is very grateful for the fence that PHT-SA put around the vegetable garden. There are 320 children in the school from grade R to Grade 7.

They are also in need of books and stationery for the school.
